Additions & ADUs

An addition is the one job where the connection matters more than the addition. A new slab poured next to an existing one sits on the same expansive clay and will move on its own schedule unless the foundation is engineered for it, and the place that shows first is the joint: a crack running across the tile exactly where old meets new. Getting the foundation and the tie in right is most of the work, and it is the part that is invisible when it is done properly.

The rest is making it not look added. Rooflines that follow the existing pitch rather than fighting it, brick and siding matched as closely as the original still allows after twenty years of Texas sun, and floors that run through the opening without a threshold announcing where the house used to end. We build the addition to finish at the same level as the house it joins, which for most of our clients means the tile and the trim are what tie the two together.

Accessory dwelling units have become a real part of this work as the county has grown. Space for a parent, an adult child staying local, or a garage conversion into something genuinely liveable. These are small buildings with every system a house has, which is why they are worth building rather than assembling, and setbacks and utility connections need answering before a design is worth drawing. We handle the permitting through the relevant city or county.
