A shower is a waterproofing job wearing a tile finish, and the order those two go in decides whether it lasts twenty years or four. Every shower we build gets a proper sloped pan and a bonded waterproof membrane behind the board before a single tile is set, and it gets flood tested before anyone tiles over it. Tile laid straight onto backer board looks identical on handover day, which is exactly why it keeps getting sold that way.

Because tile is the trade we came up in, the parts people notice years later are the parts we care about. Full sheets of stone lined up so the veining runs through a corner rather than dying at it. Niches sized to the tile so the courses land whole instead of on a sliver. Benches sloped to shed water. Curbless entries where somebody is planning to stay in the house, which needs the drain and the slab worked out before demolition rather than after.

Two things bite bathrooms specifically in this region. Hard water is the norm across Rockwall, Hunt, and Kaufman counties, and it will fog glass and leave mineral haze on polished stone within a season, so we will talk you toward finishes and sealers that survive it. And the exhaust fan matters more than anyone expects: a fan that dumps into the attic instead of outside is putting warm wet air into a space that runs well past 130 degrees in a Texas summer, and that moisture comes back down through the ceiling.
